Pre-recruitment HIV testing
HIV testing as part of the pre-recruitment medical examination
Many Egalite members have contacted us with concerns about the compulsory HIV testing as part of the recruitment procedures in the institutions.
We have raised this with the Medical Services of the Institutions and have received this reply, in summary:
- HIV testing is performed by some (not all) institutions as part of the general medical screening
- There is no targeting of the HIV test based on sexual orientation or gender identity
- HIV status alone has no effect on your fitness to work in the institutions and agencies
- There is no reserve or restriction placed on candidates based on HIV status
- The result of the test is strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to HR or anyone else
If the test is positive, and you were not aware of your HIV status, then the medical service will be available to reply to your initial questions and guide you on how to access early intervention and treatment via a specialised clinic close to your place of employment.
If you have any questions about the pre-recruitment medical screening, then get in touch with Egalite using our email address info@egalite-online.eu
We will continue to work with the Medical Services of the institutions to ensure that this reassurance is clear to all candidates and that nobody would be denied a place in the institutions based on their HIV status.
