EESC/COR lunchtime event 22 May

The Joint Committees for Diversity and Inclusion (CODI) of the European Economic and Social Committee and of the European Committee of the Regions have the pleasure of inviting you to the conference to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

Emphasis is often placed on the many challenges that still surround sexual minorities in Europe. Not only the individual cases of violence that may happen in any country, but also the discriminatory practices of some governments. What is often forgotten is that, despite all the problems we might still face, Europe is by far the most LGBT-friendly continent in the world. In our new geopolitical context, it is time to take stock of our progress, emphasize our achievements, underline the positive, and thank our fellow citizens and our countries for giving us the opportunity to be who we are.

Welcome

  • Kata Tüttő, President of the European Committee of the Regions
  • Isabelle Le Galo Flores, Secretary-General of the European Economic and Social Committee

Interventions

  • Curro Peña Díaz, ILGA World research consultant and coordinator of the ILGA World Database
  • Franko Dota, Programme advisor of Zagreb Pride, and historian of LGBT issues

Moderation by the two CODIs
