Brussels protest in solidarity with the Russian LGBTI community

Brussels protest in solidarity with the Russian LGBTI community

Dear members in Belgium We would like to invite you to join us for a silent protest in solidarity with the Russian LGBTI community in Brussels on Tuesday 18 December between 12.00-13.00. Where: Russian Mission to the EU, Boulevard du Regent 31-33, 1000 Brussels (we meet on the intersection of Rue Guimard and Avenue des Arts) What to bring: we will provide tape to cover your mouth. Do bring flags or banners.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people all over Russia will risk being silenced by a federal so-called “homosexuality anti-propaganda law”. Such homophobic laws already exist in 9 regions.

On Wednesday 19 December the Russian Duma will be voting on a federal ban, which would violate basic rights to freedom of assembly and expression of the Russian LGBTI community. Banning “homosexual propaganda” will jeopardise the crucial work of LGBTI human rights defenders and fuels stigmatisation, discrimination and violence of LGBTI people in general.

  • We demonstrate against any further attempts to violate basic human rights in Russia
  • We demonstrate against hate and intolerance in Russia

Join ILGA-Europe in this silent demonstration!Hope to see you In solidarity Nanna Moe Communications Officer ILGA-Europe Direct line: + 32 2 609 56 53
